Hey there! I'm Sarah, a mama to 4 littles and wife to one hard workin' farmer (who happens to be my sweetie since high school). I have my Ph.D in the field of education, but these days I can be found cleaning peanut butter & jelly off the counter, dreaming of traveling the world, hosting “get-togethers” for my family & friends, and chasing my kids around the farm. Smell the campfires, watch the leaves turn colors, sip the apple cider, and enjoy quiet evenings.

Even though the weather is still warm here in TN, the days on the calendar are turning to autumn.

On our farm, this season brings harvesting crops, chopping corn silage, maintaining equipment, sowing cover crops, and weaning cattle. We thank all the people who help on our farm!

We are also growing pumpkins. They aren’t quite ready yet…but will soon be ready for harvest.

But in the middle of the busyness, let’s remember to savor the food, the friendships, and the Savior.

The SMILE of a book deadline that was met! I am fi

The SMILE of a book deadline that was met! I am finally on my front porch without my computer in my lap. Last night Stella begged me to play Chinese Checkers with her but I was pounding the keyboard to meet my midnight deadline.

From a blank computer screen to 19,000 words that I’ve read at least a million times I’m in big prayer that this little book will help families, who are in deep grief, cling to Jesus. It’s not a book I asked to write, but a book that I was asked to write. I honestly didn’t think I had the time but when I was mulling it over with a friend she prophetically said, “God has already set aside the time.”

And then he showed me what to write.

I got to work. I learned to greet the sun with my computer and coffee. I took my computer with me on every single vacation we’ve taken and in my bag to work on before soccer practices, doctor visits, and most recently my son’s wisdom teeth oral surgeon removal visit yesterday.

Satan has tried to send attack. After attack. After attack. I got a call yesterday from a guy friend to tell he knew how hard Satan was attacking our family, but he was praying for my book to get finished.

All that to say, thank you ALL who pray for our family. Yesterday evening I was able to send off my manuscript to my editor. It will come back to me for my more edits- but the hardest part is finished.

Now on to the pile up of laundry and household tasks I’ve ignored the entirety of summer. Our home is chaos. We can’t do it all. Ha!

Tonight I’ll be able to play Chinese Checkers on the porch with Stella. I’m excited.

Praise, God- he truly did make the time, made a way, and gave me the material.

If he’s asking you to do something that seems absolutely insane, just say yes. He will provide.

On The Farm - Putting Up Corn the Easy Way

There may be a gazillion ways to put up fresh corn, but this is the method that works best for my family — and it could not be easier!
No blanching. No fussing. No complicated steps. Just fresh summer corn tucked away in the freezer, ready to enjoy all through fall, winter, and spring. It tastes delicious, and when cold weather rolls around, you’ll be so glad you saved a little sunshine.
Just one important tip: use freezer bags, not lightweight storage bags. Your future corn-loving self will thank you!

How to Put Up Corn

Shuck the corn and remove the silk.
No washing or blanching needed.
Place 4–6 ears of corn in each gallon-sized freezer bag.
Press out as much air as possible.
Zip the bags shut and place them in the freezer.
When you’re ready to eat, pull the ears from the freezer and place them directly into already-boiling water. Boil for about 5–7 minutes, then serve and enjoy.
Seriously, that’s it! Easy, tasty, and perfect for bringing a little summer back to the table any time of year.

The seat that launched a thousand fights…

Okay mom’s of multiple kids. You know EXACTLY what I’m talking about: the passenger seat.

Which kids gets it on which day?

I’m curious how you “take turns” in your car.

I guess one day I’ll drive around solo and miss those fights- but right now I just need a really good strategy. Or moms to say “I get this!” Ha!

ALSO- personal choice, we don’t use electronics in our car. Call me strange but I am fully convinced kids need to be looking out the window (yes even if they are bored) to help them be better drivers in the future. I don’t want their bodies to automatically think they need to be watching something when they start driving. They need to know how to drive. Also- I like that it forces us to talk.

Or them to argue and me to scream. We are making ALL types of memories. ☠️

So tell me- what’s your strategy? Last year they each had two days of the week.

I’ve also considered just letting them UFC style fight it out each morning until we determine the alpha. Survival of the fittest. But these kids are so competitive it would not end well. 🤣

The sweetness of her sitting beside me in church, baby wrapped in her arms, and asking me to turn in the Bible to the scripture the preacher directed us to read. The sweetness of babies gurgling in church and all the littles being in the pews at “big church”.

It brought back memories of my little church where I grew up. We didn’t have children’s church; we sat on the pews (or under the pews—ha!) while singing the hymns and listening to the preacher read the word of God. Every Sunday the kids got up and sang “Jesus Loves Me”.

It’s fond memories and so glad I’m making new ones with a new generation. I think I’m going to have her sit beside me more often. 🤍

Calling all Oregon-Trail Millennial Moms: I’m about to be totally vulnerable.

What are you doing about hole where you used to flaunt your belly ring?

I took out my diamond upon the pregnancy of my first child. But four children later the hole is way more noticeable.

Do you one-piece it?
High waisted two piece?
Put a ring back on it?
Plastic surgery?

Really- just tell me I’m not alone. ☠️

It’s not like I’m wearing belly shirts circa our Brittany Spears years- but while at the beach I do like to occasionally wear a two piece. And it’s not the extra layers that bother me- but that hole reminding me that what once looked amazing on hard-earned abs is not the same on a millennial mom with four kids. Ha!

My kids think I should put a 💎 back in. I am not so sure.

Kids- I apologize for mortifying you when you see this one day on social media.

BUT I KNOW I’m not the only one out here with this issue. 🤣

Weekly Writing Tip ✍️ Editing is a layered process. For me it can take weeks and months to complete all the layers. Honestly, editing is my favorite step. What’s my FINAL step before I hit send to meet a book deadline?

🌊I read my manuscript aloud to myself so I can go back and make more changes. 🌊

What’s your last step?

P.S The manuscript of my next book deadline is September 1st. If you need me—I’ll be editing! Or procrastinating. Ha!
