To the EXHAUSTED mom trying to DWELL in HIS presence

Welcome!

Hey there! I'm Sarah, a mama to 4 littles and wife to one hard workin' farmer (who happens to be my sweetie since high school). I have my Ph.D in the field of education, but these days I can be found cleaning peanut butter & jelly off the counter, dreaming of traveling the world, hosting “get-togethers” for my family & friends, and chasing my kids around the farm. I'm the author of Moo, Moo Nap, Nap; The Growing Season: A Year of Down-on-the-Farm Devotions and Loved Baby: 31 Devotions Helping You Grieve and Cherish Your Child After Pregnancy Loss. Please make yourself at home. I hope this place gives you a bit of respite. Just know I'm a true southerner...so a lot of y'alls might be thrown in the mix.

Same little seed. Same patient waiting. Same joyful harvest.

If your kids love watching things grow (or you’re just a sucker for farm magic like we are), this one’s for you.

Grab Wake Up, Little Seed (the lift-the-flap board book) and come grow with us.

What’s your favorite part of pumpkin season? Tell me in the comments 👇

The face of a child who was expecting a night of m The face of a child who was expecting a night of mini-golf but, because of a badly entered Lyft drop off and need of pivoting the evening, turned me into just telling the driver “it’s too late for putt putt, just take us on a driving tour of all the Scientology buildings and tell us everything you know about it.” My son is now afraid of people in suits walking in downtown Clearwater. Ha!!! And I’m about to order every book I can find on the topic. Had a great two days at the beach with friends. And thankful my family can always go with the flow. Highly recommend driving tours through cult areas. Ha!!!!! Keep following me for more unhinged vacation advice.

I’m insanely protective of our time — some weeks are break neck pace busy, and when that happens I make sure we also get days that are slow and steady where we enjoy our home.

From the beaches to the pool to the dining room to the kid’s club to the 13th deck we literally closed everything down. It was truly a magical experience.

Don’t let the photos fool you- Stella spent two days of being sea sick and that was not fun. For me or her. Ha!

But the Disney Fantasy was amazing. The teams that work on the ship (like Ravi and Vicky) made it incredible.

Thanks again, Disney (& Perry 🤣) for a great vacay!

🥧 Looking for the perfect comfort food this fall? 🥧 Looking for the perfect comfort food this fall?

Try my friend Lacey’s Chicken Pot Pie! It’s warm, hearty, and full of Southern comfort.
(Tip: You can boil the chicken OR my preferred method is to cook the chicken in the crockpot and assemble all the ingredients soon as I get home.)

Ingredients:
• 1 box Pillsbury pie crusts, containing 2 crusts
• 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
• 1 29-ounce can Veg-All Homestyle Large Cut Vegetables
• 1 8.75-ounce can whole kernel corn
• 2 10.5-ounce cans cream of chicken soup
• Salt and pepper to taste

Bake the bottom crust in a deep pie dish according to the package directions. Boil the chicken until fully cooked, then finely slice or shred it into a large bowl.
Drain the vegetables and corn, then mix them with the chicken, cream of chicken soup, salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the baked crust, top with the remaining uncooked crust and cut a few holes for ventilation.
Bake at 350°F for 30–40 minutes.
Enjoy, and be sure to snap a photo of your pot pie and share it in the comments! 🍂
Tobacco baskets may be a farmhouse decorating tren Tobacco baskets may be a farmhouse decorating trend, but for our family, they are reminders of where the farm began.

Tobacco once filled hundreds of acres here and shaped our family farm. Eventually, changing costs and changing times led us to move on. Sometimes growth requires leaving part of the past behind.

Change is rarely easy, whether it involves farming, family traditions, or even the things we hold on to in our homes. But we can move forward with resilience when we stand on the firm foundation of a God who never changes.

What might you need to release from the past so you can better embrace the present? 🤎

🍂 Let’s welcome fall! Smell the campfires, watch 🍂 Let’s welcome fall!

Smell the campfires, watch the leaves turn colors, sip the apple cider, and enjoy quiet evenings.

Even though the weather is still warm here in TN, the days on the calendar are turning to autumn.

On our farm, this season brings harvesting crops, chopping corn silage, maintaining equipment, sowing cover crops, and weaning cattle. We thank all the people who help on our farm!

We are also growing pumpkins. They aren’t quite ready yet…but will soon be ready for harvest.

But in the middle of the busyness, let’s remember to savor the food, the friendships, and the Savior.

What would you like to plant in your life, what can you sow?

What would you like to cultivate, what is already growing that needs your attention?

What might need to be pruned, trimmed back or released?

The SMILE of a book deadline that was met! I am fi The SMILE of a book deadline that was met! I am finally on my front porch without my computer in my lap. Last night Stella begged me to play Chinese Checkers with her but I was pounding the keyboard to meet my midnight deadline.

From a blank computer screen to 19,000 words that I’ve read at least a million times I’m in big prayer that this little book will help families, who are in deep grief, cling to Jesus. It’s not a book I asked to write, but a book that I was asked to write. I honestly didn’t think I had the time but when I was mulling it over with a friend she prophetically said, “God has already set aside the time.”

And then he showed me what to write.

I got to work. I learned to greet the sun with my computer and coffee. I took my computer with me on every single vacation we’ve taken and in my bag to work on before soccer practices, doctor visits, and most recently my son’s wisdom teeth oral surgeon removal visit yesterday.

Satan has tried to send attack. After attack. After attack. I got a call yesterday from a guy friend to tell he knew how hard Satan was attacking our family, but he was praying for my book to get finished.

All that to say, thank you ALL who pray for our family. Yesterday evening I was able to send off my manuscript to my editor. It will come back to me for my more edits- but the hardest part is finished.

Now on to the pile up of laundry and household tasks I’ve ignored the entirety of summer. Our home is chaos. We can’t do it all. Ha!

Tonight I’ll be able to play Chinese Checkers on the porch with Stella. I’m excited.

Praise, God- he truly did make the time, made a way, and gave me the material.

If he’s asking you to do something that seems absolutely insane, just say yes. He will provide.

On The Farm - Putting Up Corn the Easy Way There On The Farm - Putting Up Corn the Easy Way

There may be a gazillion ways to put up fresh corn, but this is the method that works best for my family — and it could not be easier!
No blanching. No fussing. No complicated steps. Just fresh summer corn tucked away in the freezer, ready to enjoy all through fall, winter, and spring. It tastes delicious, and when cold weather rolls around, you’ll be so glad you saved a little sunshine.
Just one important tip: use freezer bags, not lightweight storage bags. Your future corn-loving self will thank you!

How to Put Up Corn

Shuck the corn and remove the silk.
No washing or blanching needed.
Place 4–6 ears of corn in each gallon-sized freezer bag.
Press out as much air as possible.
Zip the bags shut and place them in the freezer.
When you’re ready to eat, pull the ears from the freezer and place them directly into already-boiling water. Boil for about 5–7 minutes, then serve and enjoy.
Seriously, that’s it! Easy, tasty, and perfect for bringing a little summer back to the table any time of year.
